As a general rule, Christmas reduces me to a child-like state. Giddy and giggly. Anxious and excited. Just like you girls. But this Christmas was extra exciting. I knew that this would be the first Christmas that you would participate. Last year you were just a two and a half month old bundle of a baby. All you wanted for Christmas was a nap. But this year would be different. You have recently understood that toys are "for you", as you now gasp in awe at the toy aisles in Target. You enjoyed unwrapping presents so much at your birthday party that I just knew you would be a pro at Christmastime. And you've become such a little show-off when we have company that I knew you would turn on the charm once the grandparents showed up. And most importantly, even though it's not your first Christmas, it kind of feels like it. And it's the last time it will ever feel this way. I just wanted to take this wondrous holiday and hold onto every last moment.

I think you approve! |
Digging into your stocking. |
Opening your first gift. |
Success! |
It was too much to take. |
Christmas morning charmer. |
You were the honorary present-passer. |
And the voluntary unwrapping assistant. |
So we let you open a big present early to occupy your attention. |

Lots of Happy Gift Moments, and lots of this face! |
Lost in a sea of gifts. |
I had a Christmas dress picked out for you. You never made it into it. So typical. You'd think I'd learn. |
Grandparents get the second half of the day. Pop Pop with his gift from the grandkids. A laser toy for his cats! |

You & Pop Pop, this Christmas. Some things never change. |

Most fitting explanation of Christmas Day: a Happy blur! |
OH my gosh....LOVE!!! and, i have to ask, does Finnlee love Call Me Maybe?! That is one of K's favorite songs! Anyway- back to the important stuff- like Finn's Christmas morning bed head! It's spectacular! love all the happiness in this post.
ReplyDeleteShe is obsessed with Call Me Maybe! We didn't realize it until one day when it came on the radio and she dropped whatever it was that she was doing, ran to the middle of the room, and boogied!! She even has a specific dance she does to it (and only that song) that involves a head tilt and nod. Funniest thing ever, and she does it every time. The phone we bought her has the ability to record your voice, but instead I recorded part of that song because I knew she would love it. So funny that King loves it, too!
DeleteThanks, Angela! It was a great Christmas, bed head and all!! It's bittersweet to see it go, but I'm ready for it to be over. It gets quite messy with four kids. I hope you're having a great new year, so far!!
Your post makes ME happy!!! You write so beautifully! Christmas with the family looked absolutely perfect!! And all of your pictures were perfect!! You are such a good Mom! Wishing you and your family a wonderful New Year!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Darlene! Christmas, like most things, are far from perfect (at least by television standards)...messy kitchen, bedroom full of wrapping supplies and bad morning lighting...but absolute perfection in my eyes. I wouldn't change a thing. I love that you still enjoy the pictures, darkness and mess and all! Happy New Year to you as well!!
